I am a twenty something college graduate, a writer, a photographer, avid baseball fan, a transient Midwesterner/Southerner, and another one of those children of the 80’s raised on cartoons (Scooby Doo and USA Cartoon Express), MTV with music videos, and Mikey commercials.
With a Bachelors of Arts in English (Creative Writing/Fiction) and a minor in Classics from the University of South Florida, my transcripts consist of a variety of classes in literature, arts, American culture, and philosophy... are you looking for an essay on the morality and changing landscape of American Culture?
Shel Silverstein, John Steinbeck, Jack Kerouac, Judy Blume, Jim Morrison, Dylan Thomas, Bob Dylan... fiction, poetry, music, and writing have played a huge role in my life. Whether I am writing/reading/listening/watching, the world begins to make so much sense. Being able to learn and express my thoughts and emotions – even if it’s just between me and the paper – is the one thing that helps keep everything very real.
At 13, I found the Beatles and photography. Seeing John, Paul, George, and Ringo in black and white, brought their world alive to me; so, I collected photography books. At first, it inspired me to paint the images and then I received my first camera and a black and white darkroom. The darkroom felt like a refuge and lead me to teach the processes to others. I have since switched to digital photography and plan to continue expanding my knowledge of photography. When I need to relax and see the world differently, I paint.
Ironically, baseball took me in another direction with photography. I love to watch it - being in the stands, drinking a beer, and feeling the energy of the fans. There’s a beauty and sense of family and tradition in baseball. Photographing and watching baseball reminds me about the balance of life, teamwork, sharing, picking people up when they need your help, and having a good laugh.
Since 1995, I have maintained a number of websites, which have included photography, writing, and commentary.
Currently, I am a technical writer for a software company, where I write and produce a variety of documentation, including manuals, marketing text, help systems, and web sites.
Basically, I find that each morning as I wake up, I try to enjoy and ingest everything around me, to learn and give back to the flow of things in the world...don’t get me wrong though, I still love mindlessly flipping through channels when I’m sleepy, stopping at the Time Life Music infomercials.
