Four Trees for Hiding

I have recently started dating again after a sad break up. The whole process drains me. I’m not fond of  the extensive small talk with so many new men and having to make judgments based on limited information. I prefer familiarity and shared jokes. I love being close and connected with people and past that initial awkwardness. While I know that all of this is good for me, when cold, lazy Sunday rolled around, I disconnected from the computer and my phone and hid in bed all day recuperating and creating (one in the same thing).

I got stuck on the idea of trees and decided to create them with different materials. I came up with these:

 

I used the following materials:

• The spiral tree was drawn with a Pitt Artist Pen (1,5).  It reminds me of the weeping willows near my favorite park from childhood.  I long to hide in its branches on a warm summer day.
• The winter tree was sketched with ArtGraf Water Soluble Black Carbon.  I’m still learning techniques with it, but I love its forgiving texture. I didn’t use water with it on this drawing, but I plan on trying it soon.
• The watercolor tree was done with Caran d’Ache Neocolor II Water Soluable Pastels (my birthday splurge).
• The lined doodles were drawn with a Pigma Micron 005 Pen.
