Rainy Saturday FI

New York City: Rainy Saturday

While Friday was sunny, Saturday was rainy mess. I spent the day dodging rain, drinking coffee, getting cultured, making friends with the birds, and eating cupcakes. It was all in a days vacation.

I started my day by getting a cup of coffee at The Plaza and then headed into Central Park to visit with the birds at the Holden Caulfield pond. I know it has a real name, but I really love The Catcher in the Rye, and I like thinking about the ducks.

Next, I headed to the MoMA. I hadn’t been for a few years and wanted to visit the art. Plus, I love to people watch in museum galleries. A few things that I’ve picked up:

  • The only way you can take in Picasso is with one hand to your chin.
  • Everyone is quiet around a Monet. They are a special kind of magic.
  • In elementary school, I was taken to the @columbusmuseum to see a Jackson Pollock exhibit. I remember that field trip so vividly. Never underestimate introducing kids to art. That impression can last a lifetime.

Then, I visited the Morgan Library. I’m a writer. I love books. It all makes sense. The building has beautiful windows, and there were great galleries with things like original handwritten sheets of music, photography, and Tennessee William’s typewriter.

Next, New York Public Library. It is one of my favorite places in the city. I love the lions, the architectures, the staircases, the old payphones, the reading rooms, the random intellectual galleries. I could spend days in there.
